ELECTION FEVER 07/08
Event: Election Day
Date: 15th November 2007
Venue: 7th floor, Wisma HELP
Time: 10:15am - 11:15am
The moment everyone was waiting for finally arrived. It was time to VOTE for the Law Society Executive Committee. Campaigning had lasted for a week plus and now the peak was about to be reached. The classroom partitions were opened up, students were waiting to be called in and the candidates were warming up for their speeches. It was for the very first time the freshies and second-year law students gathered for an occassion.
The election was emceed by Gene and James, hailing from Year 2. They did a terrific job despite the 24-hour notice! Each candidate was given a time limit of 5-7 minutes of their speech. The event began with speeches by candidates running for the presidency:
1. Arthur Michael Mbena (Year 2)
2. Choo Seong Chen (Year 1)
3. Nadia Tan (Year 1)
4. Nadia Azmi (Year 2)
This was followed by speeches given by the Vice President candidates:
1. Daniel Tan Yee Hui
2. Low Sher-Lynn
3. Shahriz Rezal Nordin
4. Shivreena Kaur Sidhu
As for the posts of Secretary and Tresurer, the new members were introduced by the emcees:
Secretariats:
1. Lew Chien Min
2. Shaleni Sivananthen
Treasurer:
1. Sarah Shalini Thangiah
At the end of each round, a Q&A session was held. The ballot papers were given to each student to tick for their picks and were not allowed to leave until the voting sheets were collected. The suspense, thrill and excitement were all combined together, making this year's election an unforgettable one! The students came together to support their favourite candidates. This is why they say varsity life is the best time of your life! Let's hope this is the beginning of something GREAT so to all HELP Law students out there, THE FUN IS JUST ABOUT TO BEGIN!
